Description
Radiography of the bones of the hand is prescribed for injuries, as well as for the purpose of determining bone age in children with delayed or advanced growth in relation to age. In addition, this method is used for pain syndrome to identify osteophytes and signs of arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and tendon inflammation.
When it is used
Most often, this examination is prescribed for hand injuries, but, in addition, an X–ray of the bones of the hand is used to determine bone age - in children who lag behind their peers in growth, or, conversely, are significantly ahead of them. In the presence of pain syndrome, an X-ray may be prescribed to detect arthritis and osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, osteophytes and inflammation of tendons. It is recommended to do an X-ray in the following cases: Radiography of bones and joints (skull, bones of the shoulder, forearm, foot, hand, femur, hip bone, etc.; temporomandibular, elbow, knee, wrist, hip joints, etc.): pain, crunch, blockage of movements, instability of the joint injuries (dislocations, fractures, sprains) suspicion of longitudinal flat feet diagnosis of growths, calcified areas, metastatic lesions, tumors
Important cautions
Contraindications Contraindications. Is it possible to do X-rays during pregnancy? There are no absolute contraindications. Pregnancy is a relative contraindication, especially in the first trimester. In case of emergency, an X-ray is performed at the direction of a doctor. During the procedure, the abdominal area is covered with a lead apron.
